Discovery Streaming Tasks: What can it do for its users?
ds_main_screen_login.jpgNorthern Bedford County SD receives access to discovery streaming because the intermediate unit has purchased this license or access through Capital Area Intermediate Unit. The district also pays a small fee for each employee to access this site. Each employee should have a username and password provided to them in their green tech binder. The username begins with nbcsd_ and the password should be their usual password.

Once access has been granted - a user will find access to thousands of resources in a variety of topic areas that are can be sorted by grade level, subject/content area, and also PA standards.

Resource examples - videos - full length or segments may be downloaded or used online; articles; pictures; quizzes; events in time; lesson plans; sound effects; writing prompts

Getting Started:

Searching for Desired Resources

  • Decide if you wish to complete a broad search or narrow search
  • Broad search - simply type in the search bar at the top your topic of choice
    • This will give you all resources that will apply to that topic (video, articles, quizzes, events, images, lesson plans, etc.)
  • Narrow search - use the left column to choose content area, grade level or standards; you can do one or more than one of these categories before typing in your topic of choice
    • This will narrow down your potential topic before you actually give the specific topic based on what you are looking for

Viewing a Selected Resource

  • Click on the title of the resource or the picture associated with that resource
  • Some resources have additional information that may be used with it such as blackline masters, curriculum standards, brief descriptions
  • Decide what you wish to do with this resource - download it to your computer or simply add it to your "my content" folder for access at a later date and online usage
  • You can decide to complete both options

Downloading Videos or Video Segments DS_buttons.jpg

  • Video - resource you would like to download, right click on the picture of the disc next to the title of the resource; either the entire resource of one or more of the segments
    • After you right click, choose "save target as" and choose the location you wish to save in; then hit save; it will download
  • Image - resource you would like to download or save, click on the size that you wish to preview (small, medium, or large)
    • When the screen opens, right click on the picture and choose "save as" or "save picture as"
    • Provide a image file name and choose where you wish to save it
  • Quiz - you would like to use online or print, click on the title and then make further choices
    • You can view the related materials
    • You can print with or without the answers or download it to Word to print
    • You can choose the "copy/edit" button and have this quiz saved into one of your desired folders on your discovery streaming account
    • You can then use this quiz as an online assignment/quiz for students to complete
  • Articles - you can view/read online, save them to your "my content" folder, or choose to see a "printer friendly" version
  • Clip Art - access/download is the same as images
  • Event - provides you the calendar date when it occurred, related videos, and a short description for you to read
  • Lesson Plans - may be viewed or downloaded as PDF files or Word files
  • Songs - click on the title and then either hit the play button to preview or right click on the disc picture and choose "save target as" to download the song

Using the My Content Folder

  • Then you will be able to retrieve this item at a later date without having to search for it again
